Help me understand this Carbon Bike Cracking
I am looking to understand the likely cause of failure leading to the carbon frame cracking shown in the photos via this link:
The cracks are on both sides of the down tube of a carbon fibre mountain bike. There is no apparent impact damage. The cracking is parallel to the frame in the middle but disperses on both ends. My initial thought is that it might be the result of the front fork being pushed backwards rotating the head tube and attempting to bend the downtube but there is no sign of any movement in the top tube. Can an engineer please help me understand what kind of forces might have caused this failure and, what type of solution (other than wrapping with mass carbon) would be the most appropriate?
