Question for UK engineers. Is it possible to get Chartered Engineer status revoked/removed for malpractice?
As there is no licensing system in place (like in other countries) the title carries less weight and is less well regulated than that of say a Doctor. Obviously a Doctor can be struck off the medical register for malpractice.
I'm trying to find out what would happen to a negligent Engineer that would otherwise (if a licensing system is in place) see their status removed.
I appreciate that the Engineering Council and the various institutions do a fine job but I'm stuggling to see how they ensure high standards of their members and prevent rogue or shoddy engineers (who have already achieved CEng status). Obviously the vast majority are competent and professional.
This is purely hypotectical.
