Is there a way to modulate spring force?
I want to build an electric staple gun that is a "robot". The end goal is to replace pneumatic staplers on residential / commercial job sites. I've wanted to make the staple driver a solenoid for as long as I've had the idea. I haven't been able to find any solenoids that have a 2" stroke, and could move quickly enough and with enough force to be comparable to a hammer. In lieu of that, would it be reasonable to use a spring as the staple driver and a solenoid as the reset device?
Would heat management be a huge concern? I'm talking thousands of repetitions a over an 8 hour day. A current pneumatic gun using team can fire ~ 3000 staples a day. The work comes in bursts. 20 minutes working, 10 minutes idle. So there is time to cool off. I know that heat can be an issue for solenoids, but I don't know how severe it is.
