Questions regarding working for Air Force Base as mechanical engineer

Hi, /r/engineering!

I have the potential to work at Arnold Air Force Base in the National Aerospace Solutions section. I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight as to what it is like to work for the military research branches of the government.

What would the work for a branch of the government that revolves around testing military equipment? Is it a very bureaucratic environment? Is management typically overbearing, or do they encourage innovation?

If anyone has worked in a similar workplace, I'd love to hear your experiences from it.
