CMU Pier Reinforcement Question

CMU Pier Reinforcement Question

I have two piers in question. They were built in 1948, 12"x16" CMU (comprised of 8x8x12 and 4x8x12 CMU alternating).

They're currently supporting a 1 story structure that I need to replace. One end is ledgered to the house and the other end is sitting on a beam, which spans the two piers in question.

Will doweling in a concrete support "ring" add to their stability? They haven't settled or moved in 68 years from what I can tell, but if I can add any support to the piers while I'm at it then it's cheap insurance. The ground is undisturbed at this point. I can do a 4-12" pad with gravel underneath.

What do you guys think?
